Nicki Preggers

Yes, World, it has finally happened!

Nicki Minaj announced her pregnancy on Instagram. She looked beautiful, like a magical, smooth, chocolate ice-cream cone topped with sprinkles and sparkles.

Geez, will the best glam squad in the game, take a goddamn bow!

Congrats! Hooray, as we do, then right away, some people started bringing up sexual offender talk.

I’m not trying to focus on the negative because the vast majority of us wish Nicki the best and didn’t dwell too deep on it. Then I saw a few comments that made me think about it.

Ain’t it funny how that happens?

First, you think, idle, kinda messy comments – but then you think, ok some social significance could be attached to that one, then another.

It’s no secret that Nicki’s new husband, Kenneth Perry, had a past that involved being convicted of rape as a teen and manslaughter in his adult years. He served prison time for both convictions. Nicki defended her husband’s rape conviction as young love and teen emotions gone wild.

Point-taking- teen love, especially first love, is intense, a hormonal roller coaster, add sex, and its the double-loop at top speeds.

There was also the case of her brother. This year, Jelani Maraj was sentenced to 25 years to life for predatory sexual assault, which involved raping an 11-year-old. Nicki stood by Jelani’s side throughout the entire trial. Anyone familiar with her music knows that her big brother had a significant influence on her life and career.

We all say it, “You can pick your friends but not your family,” and Nicki did what most people would have done under similar circumstances.

So Black Twitter had a little bit of a debate going on with tweets congratulating her and others questioning her choice of a husband and baby daddy.

Of course, it’s a mixed bag when it comes to both views.

Nicki knew both men before their crimes and mistakes. She grew up with both men and witnessed the sides of their personality that the public will never know. She remains loyal to those fond, loving figures in her life.

According to RAINN, the nation’s largest anti- sexual violence organization, every 73 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. And every 9 minutes, that victim is a child. Meanwhile, only 5 out of every 1,000 perpetrators will end up in prison.

Those statistics are mind-blowing, and we must all do whatever we can to change those numbers. Donate to the cause. Support the victims through education and workshops. Protect our children and teach them to recognize the signals and tactics abusers use. Most importantly, tell the child they are not the blame and keep no secrets.

We can also be happy for Nicki, who deserves to have a happy relationship and a beautiful, healthy child!

Fame, I imagine, can be a pain—everyone pulling at you from all different directions.

Be a role model for this! Speak out against that! Stand up for them!

Well, right now, she’s a testimonial for motherhood during a pandemic.

Congratulations go to Nicki Minaj!

Pretty in pink!

Wait, was that a hint?
